ANIMATION WORKSHOP FOR PRACTICING ARTISTS

Animation is a powerful tool through which artists can portray their work. This visual language is accessible and can be easily understood, once the basic technical details that involve timing and movement are

discovered. This workshop proposes new techniques with which artists can explore their own sequential narratives over time.

The workshop is aimed at artists who wish to expand their possibilities within film by using experimental and traditional stop motion animation techniques. Stop motion, in its essence, is the collection of a series of still frames (in this case photographs) that capture movement of some kind (in this case your artwork), over time. The basic techniques learned on the workshop will equip the artist with the knowledge and experience needed to explore their artwork and subject matter in an animated, new and experimental light.

The workshop will take place over four Saturdays and will cover: an introduction to animation; the basic technical breakdowns of working with movement and timing; experimenting with stop motion techniques; using a light box to develop knowledge of stacked-layering for scene movement; and editing your footage for film.
